چکیده

proving the validity of the present numerical approach. The results were also compared to the FEM simulations made by White et al. The ion current rectification in the pore of 10 μm length and half-cone angle of 12°, filled with 1 mM KCl solution was simulated. In this case the rectification ratio r(E) 35 is 1.39, while White et al report 1.38. The tiny difference in the obtained result is probably caused by slightly different constants taken.

Ion current rectification and rectification inversion in conical nanopores: a perm-selective view.

Ionic transport in charged conical nanopores is known to give rise to ion current rectification. The present study shows that the rectification direction can be inverted when using electrolyte solutions at very low ionic strengths. To elucidate these phenomena, electroneutral conical nanopores containing a perm-selective region at the tip have been investigated and shown to behave like classica...

Scan-rate-dependent ion current rectification and rectification inversion in charged conical nanopores.

Herein we report a theoretical study of diode-like behavior of negatively charged (e.g., glass or silica) nanopores at different potential scan rates (1-1000 V·s(-1)). Finite element simulations were used to determine current-voltage characteristics of conical nanopores at various electrolyte concentrations. This study demonstrates that significant changes in rectification behavior can be obser...

Ion current rectification inversion in conic nanopores: nonequilibrium ion transport biased by ion selectivity and spatial asymmetry.

We show both theoretically and experimentally that the ion-selectivity of a conic nanopore, as defined by a normalized density of the surface charge, significantly affects ion current rectification across the pore. For weakly selective negatively charged pores, intra-pore ion transport controls the current and internal ion enrichment/depletion at positive/reverse biased voltage (current enters/...

Ion current rectification in funnel-shaped nanochannels: Hysteresis and inversion effects.

Ion current rectification inversion is observed in a funnel-shaped nanochannel above a threshold voltage roughly corresponding to the under-limiting to over-limiting current transition. Previous experimental studies have examined rectification at either low-voltages (under-limiting current region) for conical nanopores/funnel-shaped nanochannels or at high-voltages (over-limiting region) for st...

From Ion Current to Electroosmotic Flow Rectification in Asymmetric Nanopore Membranes

Asymmetrically shaped nanopores have been shown to rectify the ionic current flowing through pores in a fashion similar to a p-n junction in a solid-state diode. Such asymmetric nanopores include conical pores in polymeric membranes and pyramidal pores in mica membranes. We review here both theoretical and experimental aspects of this ion current rectification phenomenon. A simple intuitive mod...
